Greek Revival occurred between 1825 and 1860.  It is a type of architecture that is inspired by Greek Temples and Greek culture as a whole. Because of the classical style, it is still used in new houses built in industrialized cities, such as Brooklyn.

New York City is a major site for immigration. The idea that the United States is a land of opportunity was a motivating factor for people to immigrate here a century ago, and this still holds true today. This continuity parallels to the structure of 176 Atlantic Avenue because the architecture was the foundation for successful businesses to blossom from different immigrant families. In the mid- to late-1800s, Gross Studio was run by the Gross Brothers, who were of German descent. Currently, Yemen Cafe is a successful restaurant that serves Yemeni food and is owned and operated by a family of Yemeni descent.
